Our group chose to share http://www.elevenwarriors.com/, an Ohio State sports blog. We chose Eleven Warriors because it is one of the most popular blogs about a common interest practically all of us share: Ohio State football and basketball. The authors of Eleven Warriors do a good job of frequently providing new posts. Some posts are meant to be informative while others aim to be funny from the perspective of Buckeyes fans.

We also chose Eleven Warriors because of the way it demonstrates ethos and pathos, two concepts we have discussed in class. The content of the blog is definitely aimed to an audience of Buckeye fans. It is strongly opinionated and cannot be considered an objective source. This contributes to the pathos of the blog by making it appeal to Ohio State fans. The blog's presentation is also appealing to this audience because of the repetition of the colors scarlet and gray. The site claims to have no affiliation with The Ohio State University. Its credibility comes from the duration and popularity of the blog. Advertisements for tickets and OSU apparel on the blog target Buckeye fans.

  1. I think this is a great blog because it is exactly what blogs are supposed to be: timely, compelling, and relevent, which is what we have discussed in class. The authors write about things that are up to date, and happening currently, rather than things that are out of date and unimportant anymore. Also, they write about things that people actually have opinions of and can spark up conversations such as game statistics and their views on Buckeye happenings. This is very relevent and compelling to Buckeye fans because everyone likes to read about what is going on, and hear what others think about what is going to happen during tomorrows game.

  2. I think the fact that the blog has its own shop also says something about the websites rhetoric as a whole. The shirts they sell in their shop have slogans and logos on them that would appeal to the most diehard Buckeyes fans. The blog is trying to sell an image to its readers and consumers: That Eleven Warriors is the best place for diehard Buckeye fans, produced by Buckeye fans just like themselves.

  3. This blog shows plenty of pathos toward its readers. It obviously is centered toward Ohio State fans and the writing reflects that. The language that they use and the way it is written appeals to Ohio State fans so it can really draw there attention. This is also timely because it is a blog that is constantly being updated. It has things that has just happened and that people want to know about. The blog is also set up to get people's attention to multiple things. It sets it up to get your attention toward the main headlines but it also gets your attention to look at the other ads that are also Ohio State related.

  4. The ethos of this blog really does come from the experience and dedication of its contributors. In the sports world, especially with opinions, there isn't always a defined right or wrong answer. For our sports knowledge, we rely on self proclaimed "sports analysts". What makes a "sports analyst" credible in our opinions? We usually look for someone who is constantly surrounded in the said sport(s) and who can provided compelling and relevant information. The creators mention an older blog that they created in the nineties, and pride themselves on practically living in Buckeye sports and surrounding themselves with similar people. For me, i can certainly see this site as a credible source of information about various Ohio State athletics.

  5. It's good that the gave Craft his well deserved due. He has played like an experienced veteran opposed to a sophomore and is now starting to but his stamp on the box score. Hopefully he can keep it up as the competition gets much harder the rest of the season.

  6. This blog is most definitely a hit among Buckeye fans. It capitalizes on the passion and faith that Buckeye fans have in the sports teams here. I think it is very effective because of the popularity and success of Ohio State sports. It uses pathos to appeal to its audience with team spirit and pride for OSU athletics.

  7. Though this blog is timely and relevant (to Ohio State fans anyway) is it credible? It seems that some research has gone into this but are all the facts true? In the article about the "circus" around Tressel's recruiting practices I find it hard to believe anything because Tressel is so private about Ohio State football affairs. However, the author may be on speaking terms with Coach. You just never know.
And to Ben: A minor correction, Aaron Craft is a Freshman. He graduated from Findlay Liberty-Benton last year.

  8. I noticed the advertising on this blog is very appealing to the Ohio State fan. Typical people who will read this blog are sports fans, grown men and college students. For sports fans there is an ad for jupmode.com which has a lot of college team apparel. Some grown men have there own businesses so there is an ad for placing an ad on google. Everyone needs insurance so there is an ad for from American Family Insurance. Clicking on that ad sends you to an agent from New Albany, Ohio, a Columbus suburb. That is very practical for the fans of Columbus! I also noticed at the top of the blog the statement, "Your stepping into manhood right now." The writer of this blog definitely knows who their audience is.

  9. It is important that an article is timely, credible, and appears relevant to the audience that the blog is hoping to reach. This blog reaches all these key aspects. It is timely, becuase it talks about recent games, new coaches, the Ohio State players of thi year. It is relevant, becuase the people that are reading this are most likely sportsfans and all the blog posts are centered around the same thing, OSU football and basketball. Even the ads are relevant to the people that are going to read the blog. Advertisers know that selling OSU shirts is going to be a very productive business on an OSU blog. As for credibility, these bloggers may not people sports analysyts, or coaches, or sports broadcasters. However, their credibility comes from their faithfullness to OSU sports. Most of them eat, sleep, and breathe OSU football so they are credible to talk about something that they know so much about.

  10. Dani, that correction deserves your typical 95% =p. As for the blog, not much else to say except if you attend Ohio State and love athletics, who wouldn't like that blog?

  11. I wish this was facebook, so that I could like young Steven's comment! I like this site. It's good reading. It is definately timely and relevent, as basically all of us love our OSU sports. Go Bucks, Michigan sucks!

  12. This blog is relevent to any OSU fan out there. It is timely because it talks about current OSU sports, and games happening right now. The blog is credible because the authors are familiar with OSU and their sports.

  13. I like how the blog can appeal to women too, through the article about Sullinger's butt. It's amusing, and definitely keeps Ohio State women fans entertained, while still keeping sports as the center.

  14. I agree with Kailey, I laughed reading about the skull sessions article. Buckeye fans all know the skull session is fun and even more entertaining when Sullinger's butt is talked about. Eleven Warriors is relevant and timely because a Buckeye can see when the next big game is, or what they have missed out on. This cite is credible because they know everything about OSU sports and do a great job recapping the games.

  15. As previously stated, this blog is very timely, with interests reaching to Buckeye fans of all ages. Being Ohio State students, this site is especially relevant to this class. It is also seemingly credible because the authors of this blog are avid Ohio State sports fanatics; however, this leads to the discretion that the authors are biased towards Ohio State athletics. The site appeals to only Buckeye fans, limiting its pathos to a select, privileged group that we are lucky to be a part of.

  16. I would agree with most of the posts on this blog, as it is very timely and relevant. Any buckeye fan would enjoy looking through this blog. Kayla also made a good point by saying that the authors may be a little biased since they are big OSU fans.

  17. I'm not sure how any buckeye fan couldn't like this blog. Any basketball or football info you want is on here. I like how the new author that was introduced today says that there will be at least one typo per article. This goes to show that these aren't pros, but rather people just like us that make mistakes.

  18. This blog is perfect for any buckeye fan. It has all the detail of what is going on in both the basketball and football teams. Any buckeye fan would love the chance to get all the information possible on Ohio States sports teams and anything else related to OSU sports.

  19. This blog is very informative for OSU buckeye fans. It provides very current information with frequent updates and articles. Credibility may be in question in their bias toward OSU but most followers will enjoy that aspect.

  20. The articles that I read were very informative and fact based. Living in a room with people that know a lot more about sports, it's nice to catch up with them a little. The site is very pro-buckeyes but we are #1 so there is tons of good stuff to say.

  21. I agree that the blog seems to meet all the requirements of being timely, relevant (to Buckeye fans), and informative.

  22. This blog is highly demanding due to the fact this is The Ohio State University. It appeals to a wider crowd like sports enthusiasts and people that attend the university. However, credibility is still an issue. Most of the article writers depend on reliable sources like ESPN, internet, and other forms of information to make sure the information is right. Another advantage of having a sports article is that it is fast and timely.

  23. It has been said again and again that this blog meets the requirements of being timely, compelling and relevant. Additionally, the blog seems to be your average college sports fan website. Complete with team schedules, polls, commentary, links to Facebook and Twitter, forums, and advertising for apparel.

  24. This blog is obviously highly relevant to me as I am an Ohio State fan. The articles are highly pro Ohio State and anyone who didn't like the buckeyes would have no reason to come to this site. If you are looking for unbiased opinions this probably isn't the best place to look but it is good for some Ohio State information.
